Gluttons Bay, Blue Jazz & Sentosa

This weekend has gotten off to a great start, and here's a look in photos.

This is Gluttons Bay, an aptly named one-stop shop for pretty good hawker food. Wait until you see what we had...

Ali ordered BBQ fish and fried rice for us, and I ordered satay. Everything was delicious! The little white cubes by the satay are rice cubes. Gummier than other rice but pretty good dipped in the sauce.

Here's our group out for drinks at a bar called Blue Jazz. We were seated outside but inside there was live jazz music. We could still hear it but it was easy to talk. From left to right, Robin and Rachel (visiting from Boston), Josh, Ali, Rafi and Ilana (engaged), Whitney (married to Josh), and me. It was fun.

I slept in this morning, then Ali and I went to Sentosa, one of the outlying islands of Singapore best known for beaches and entertainment. Sentosa is really easy to get to - you just take the MRT to the last station of one of the lines, then ride a monorail (that picks you up guess where...inside a mall) over to the island.

Here's the "Ali pose." Just like at the view from my office, there are ships all around the island, waiting for work to be had. That makes Sentosa slightly less scenic, unfortunately.

Here I am overlooking one of the beaches.

These people were on a company outing playing a game called captain's ball. The object is to get the ball in the hands of the person standing on the chair.

Love this photo (and no ships in sight!)

We walked around the island quite a bit, and there were birds of paradise everywhere.

Here we are at the Southernmost point of continental Asia. If you're wondering how that is possible since Indonesia is further south than Singapore, it seems to be a bit of a technicality to me. From what I've heard, it's because Singapore is connected to the Malaysian peninsula by a bridge, and Sentosa is connected to Singapore by a bridge. Apparently there is not a bridge to Indonesia. On the other side of the bridge, there's another sign that reads practically the same thing, which makes it all seem a little suspect. Good photo opp, nonetheless.

Ali and I grabbed a small bucket of beers and kicked it on Tanjong Beach for a while. It was much more relaxed and chill than the beach that pumped techno music like a club.

Then, we sunned ourselves on these pallets that were set out for tanning. I couldn't resist the Corona commercial spoof photo!

We got back around 5:00, and after that I just rested here for a while before showering and getting ready to join last night's crew for burgers at Bar Bar Black Sheep. Gotta go!
